Isometric Drawing II โ€” Deeper Sectioning

Chapter 4 introduced a basic quarter-sectioned isometric block. This chapter goes further: half-sections, the rib convention, isometric dimensioning, blind holes, exploded views, and fully sectioned assemblies.

Why go further with sectioning

A real production component is rarely as simple as the plain quarter-sectioned block from Chapter 4. Real parts have ribs for strength, blind holes for fasteners, and are almost always designed to fit together with other parts. This chapter takes the sectioning skill you already have and applies it to those more realistic situations.

The same conventions, just applied more often

Nothing in this chapter is a brand-new drawing technique โ€” every sheet reuses the half-section or quarter-section method you already know. What's new is a set of RULES for handling special cases correctly: when to stop hatching, when to leave a feature unhatched entirely, and how a dimension line has to change direction to stay parallel to the edge it's measuring.

What this chapter covers

Each exercise below prints as a full-scale A3 sheet โ€” the same format used in EGD practical assessments. The reference thumbnail shows the completed drawing; redraw it full-size on paper using correct line types and hatching conventions. Use your printer's "Actual Size" setting (not "Fit to Page").
