Why reading a drawing is its own skill

So far in Drawing Druid, you've mostly been the one producing a drawing. In industry, far more people READ engineering drawings than draw them โ€” machinists, quality inspectors, buyers, assemblers, welders. Every one of them relies on you, the designer, having used the correct symbols and callouts so the drawing means exactly one thing, with no room for guessing.

Symbols compress information

A single feature control frame, thread callout or hole note can replace a whole paragraph of written instruction โ€” but only to a reader who already knows the code. That's exactly what this chapter teaches: not how to draw these symbols from scratch (you've already done that in earlier chapters), but how to read and correctly interpret them on a finished, real-world drawing.
